Perhaps the most critical time for students is middle school where they are learning to make the transition between elementary and high school.
The middle school sports and recreation program focuses on developing skills and maximizing participation opportunities for all students.
Sports and activities have been selected so that all students who wish to play, regardless of skill level, can participate.
Organized sports include boys’ and girls’ basketball, cheerleading, cross-country, football, golf, and tennis.
We are very excited about the future of our boys’ basketball program under the tutelage of Coach Bush. Geaux Lions!
Dr. Tinsley has built an elite program, and our girls have excelled. Not only do we hold several ASPS championships, our teams are competitive in the public school tournaments in which they participate.
All girls in grades 4 through 8 are invited to play basketball. Practice is generally held twice per week with a camp in June. Practice begins in July, and the girls play through November. In the spring, the teams normally come together again to play through the local YMCA league.
Middle School students meet on Wednesdays from 3:00-4:00 PM, the first full week of school through the first week in November. Cross country athletes are required to race in three races around the community.
Students receive bronze, silver, or gold medals at our annual Athletic Banquet for running twenty-six miles, fifty miles or 100 miles during the school year. Trophies are also given to a few outstanding runners each year.
In 2011-2012, St. Mark’s will field a gold team, which will consist of advanced to tournament players.
St. Mark’s cheerleading is open to all girls in 6th – 8th grades. Our cheerleaders cheer at Jets football games and St. Mark’s boys’ basketball games as well as lead quarterly pep rallies. Cheerleader practice is held on Tuesdays after school from 3:15-4:30 PM. Camp is held in June.
To participate girls must have an SMCS cheerleader uniform, shoes, and jacket, as well as camp outfits. These items are ordered thru Varsity Cheerleading each April.
