SCHOOL UNIFORMS
2011-12
Uniforms are required for students in grades K3-8. Jewelry, makeup, and hairstyles must be appropriate.
Girls Grades K3-2nd
• Plaid jumper
• Navy straight-legged pants (optional for weather below 50 degrees between the months of November through March)
• White round collar short-sleeved blouse with navy piping
• Navy or white cardigan for cool weather
• Plain navy or white turtleneck for cool weather
• Navy sweatshirt with Tower logo, navy sweatshirt with “SMCS” in school plaid, or purple sweatshirt with Lion logo for cool weather
• Socks
• Sturdy, closed toe shoes appropriate for outdoor play (no sandals, crocs, slippers, flip flops, etc.)
Girls Grades 3-5
• Plaid skirt or skort with sewn down pleats (skirts may be no shorter than 2” above the knee)

• Plaid tie
• Navy or white cardigan for cool weather

Boys Grades 3-5
• White oxford cloth shirts (long or short-sleeved) with Tower logo or white long or short-sleeved knit shirt with Tower logo

• Navy cardigan or sweater vest
• Navy sweatshirt with Tower logo or purple sweatshirt with Lion logo for cool weather

Boys Grades 6-8
• Blue and white striped oxford cloth shirts (long or short-sleeved) with tower logo
• Navy twill uniform shorts or pants

• Navy cardigan or sweater vest
• Navy sweatshirt with Tower Logo or purple sweatshirt with Lion for cool weather
• Plain navy or white turtleneck for cool weather
• Socks
• Sturdy, close-toed shoes (no sandals, crocs, flip flops, etc.)
Boys’ shirts in grades 1-8 must be tucked in so that the belt is visible. Only appropriately sized white t-shirts are allowed to be worn under uniform shirts. They may not hang out of the short-sleeved shirt. Uniforms may not be stained, torn, without buttons, or too small.

Shirts, pants, and fleeces may be purchased from Lands’ End, www.landsend.com.
Monograms
Girls in YK3-2nd may have either a monogram or the Tower logo on the left collar of their blouse. Girls in 3rd -8th may have monograms on the left sleeve of the blouse. Boys in YK3-5th may have a monogram on the left sleeve of polo shirts. Boys in grades 3-8 may have a monogram on the left breast of oxford cloth shirts.
Socks
Boys should wear plain white socks that can be seen above the shoe with tennis shoes or black or navy socks with dress shoes.
Girls should wear white socks or navy, black, or white knee socks.
White, navy, or black tights and leggings may be worn if the leggings are to the ankle and unadorned by lace, etc. The socks must cover the leggings at the ankle or foot to be acceptable.
Girls in YK3-2nd grade may wear colored or seasonally patterned socks or tights.
Shoes
Solid colored leather shoes or tennis shoes may be worn with the uniform. Low or high tops may be worn. Shoes must be laced all the way up. Boots, sandals, clogs, backless shoes and roller shoes (Heelys) may not be worn with the uniform.
Hair
All students should have natural hair color and it should be kept out of the eyes. Boys are asked o keep their hair cut above the eyebrows and above the collar in back.
Optional Uniform Wear
The navy fleece with Tower Logo is available from the Land’s End catalog order department or SportsWorld. This jacket may be worn in the classroom.
Middle School students may wear the school letter jacket in place of the sweatshirt. These jackets are available from Shreveport Gymnastics.
Boys who play on the Jets football team may wear their Jets sweatshirts during cool weather.
A coat of choice may be worn to school, but it must be removed on entering the building. In the school only the approved fleece, sweatshirts, sweaters, cheerleading jacket or St. Mark’s/Jets jacket may be worn.
On days when children have Brownie or Cub Scout meetings, they may wear their scoutuniforms.
In Middle School, a detention will be given to a student who receives five uniform violations.
Physical Education
Students in grades 6-8 are required to wear P.E. uniforms. The P.E. uniforms are available from SportsWorld and Shreveport Gymnastics and consist of gray shorts and purple t-shirts with the Lion Logo. Girls may elect to wear black Nike Tempo shorts rather than the gray shorts.
Casual Dress/Jeans Days
On special occasions the Head of School may declare a Casual Dress/Jeans Day. Students are expected to be neat—no torn t-shirts or ragged clothing. Walking shorts and jeans are permitted for both boys and girls. Shorts may be no shorter than 5” above the knee. T-shirts are permitted as long as the design/language is appropriate for St. Mark’s Cathedral School, but tank tops and spaghetti strap shirts are not allowed. Shirts may be worn tucked in or left out, but the shirt must be long enough to cover the midriff area when a student’s arms are raised. Shoes must still have closed toes and backs and be appropriate for P.E. classes. On some occasions there may be a special theme for the casual dress day, such as school spirit, Mardi Gras, Christmas, etc. Guidelines for the theme will be issued. Any student whose casual clothing does not adhere to the general guidelines or the assigned theme will be required to change into a school uniform.
