Faculty welcome parent involvement and believe that close teacher-parent relations are essential to academic success. Most teachers do not have phones in their classrooms, so e-mail is the best means of communicating with teachers.

“And gladly would he teach and gladly learn.” – Chaucer With over twenty years as a teacher, administrator, and head in independent schools, and over half that time spent in Episcopal schools, Chris Carter is committed to the freedom that independent schools have to focus on a unique mission and meet the individual needs of students and their families. He is particularly committed to Episcopal schools and their distinctive vision that schools should be Christian communities that affirm that all knowledge comes from God and whose missions integrate spiritual formation into all aspects of the educational experience. Before coming to St. Mark’s in 2008, Dr. Carter was the Head of Bishop Seabury Academy in Lawrence, Kansas, having previously served schools in Virginia, North Carolina, and South Carolina. He has been listed twice in “Who’s Who in American High School Teachers” and continues his ministry of teaching both in school chapel services and by teaching an enrichment class in the Middle School. Dr. Carter has been in education for twenty-four years, serving for the past four years as our Head of School. He also teaches various middle school enrichments as his schedule allows. Dr. Carter counts Robert E. Lee as one of his heroes. Lee became president of Washington College after the Civil War and was committed to creating a modern, liberal arts curriculum and an institution that could help reconcile the North and the South. In his spare time, Dr. Carter enjoys running, reading, and playing with his children. Dr. Carter has two children enrolled at St. Mark’s.

Madame Bradley has spent twenty-seven years teaching French and leading the middle school of St. Mark’s. Deeply committed to her students and to St. Mark’s, Mme Bradley makes sure that middle school students are held to high academic and behavioral standards in order to prepare them for high school, even as she makes sure they have adequate adult emotional support for the trials and tribulations of the difficult middle school years. An important part of Mme Bradley’s duties includes helping students and their parents find the right school for their high school studies. Her students love her joie de vivre and her complete dedication to all things St. Mark’s. Mme Bradley’s hero is her mother who the strongest and most loving lady she has ever known. In her spare time, she enjoys being with her family and friends and supporting St. Mark’s athletes.
“Teaching is the profession that teaches all the other professions.” Mrs. Fair leads the lower school at St. Mark’s. With forty-four years in elementary education as principal, curriculum coordinator, and second grade classroom teacher, she brings a wealth of experience to our students and teachers. Mrs. Fair is committed to ensuring that the fundamental knowledge and skills of the elementary curriculum inspire students to love learning and excite each individual student. She also coordinates all standardized testing and any additional academic support for students in both Lower and Middle Schools. Mrs. Fair’s office is always busy with students getting help or teachers seeking advice. Mrs. Fair lists her grandmother as he hero. While growing up she was her best friend. She did lots of fun thing with her grandmother such as playing cards, shopping and going to eat lunch at her favorite places. In her spare time, Mrs. Fair enjoys reading, going to the movies, and going to plays.

She has eleven years of teaching experience and has spent the last seven years at St. Mark’s. Heller Keller is her hero. Mrs. Russo enjoys watching her children play sports. She is also an avid reader and likes going to the movies. Mrs. Russo has two children – both who graduated from St. Mark’s. Mrs. Russo’s passion is implementing developmentally appropriate programs for pre-school children and ensuring that every child’s first school experience is rich and exciting for the children and for their parents. Under Miss Jessica’s nurturing leadership, children in the White House have a wonderful time developing all the skills necessary for success in the elementary grades.
